https://www.usends.com/co-ut-wy.html
The closest interstate access is from I-80’s exit 99 in Wyoming. Heading south from Rock Springs on US 191, many maps indicate that one can take Sweetwater County Road 34* east for a few miles, and then CR 27** south to within a few miles of the tri-state corner…
*Some maps label this “Ramsey Ranch Rd”, while others refer to it as “Salt Wells Creek Rd”.
**Some maps label this “Aspen Mountain Rd”, while others refer to it as simply “Aspen Rd”.
…however, when I turned off US 191 onto CR 34, I was greeted with this sign:
That was also there during my first attempt in 1999, so it does not appear that repairing the bridge is a high priority. The directions are helpful, but pay close attention to the “10.3 miles”, because the road you want is not marked as “CR 4-67” or “Clay Basin Rd”… it is actually signed as CR 62:
When you leave US 191 there, you won’t see another paved road for a long time. CR 62 heads south, through a gap in the Tepee Mountains — shortly beyond that, you cross into Utah. It’s also a little confusing once you get to Clay Basin — there are several roads around there, and it’s unclear which is the “main” one that leads to Browns Park Rd.
You’re looking for a fairly well-traveled road that runs east-west, along the south side of the settlement. I don’t believe it’s marked as CR 192 (as the sign in the photo above indicates), or anything else for that matter, but all roads in the area connect to it eventually. Once you’ve reached it, go east for a couple miles, until you see this sign:
That turnoff is a road that essentially follows a small valley northward along the west side of Bender Mountain (this is the road which — according to maps — becomes CR 27 in Wyoming, but I’m not sure how far north you can actually go on it). About five miles into it, you cross a cattle guard and enter Wyoming. Not far beyond that, the road begins a fairly steep climb. When I was there, it was deeply rutted and badly eroded in spots — this is where you’ll begin to be glad you have a 4WD. After about a mile, the road crests a ridge, where the sign shown here was posted:
(That was actually for drivers heading southbound. There was no similar sign heading north — perhaps it was removed because it referenced something ahead in Wyoming that you can no longer reach due to the bridge closure.) Anyway, the road east from there to the marker doesn’t get any better.
Maybe – “Wyoming Frontier Prison” Rawlins, Wyoming, US January 11, 2013
GAC gets locked down at the Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins, Wyoming, where 200 tortured souls still remain incarcerated for their crimes they committed in life and are now serving in death for all eternity. They also investigate the Dean/Summer Home a few blocks away, after hearing the story of the “Garage Witch” that left a woman paralyzed in the house’s garage in the 1970s.

Obtain a walk-in permit. Read a first-hand account from someone who hiked The Wave on a walk-in permit.
20 people a day are allowed to hike to Coyote Buttes North and The Wave. 10 will have secured their permits ahead of time by online lottery; the remaining 10 hiking slots can be acquired by walk-in permit at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Visitor Center located at 745 US-89 in Kanab, UT.
Walk-in permits are dispensed for the following day, so you’ll need to arrange for hotel accommodations accordingly.
To try your hand at getting one, you must show up in person (no phone-ins or proxies) at the Visitor Center between 8:30 – 9:00 AM local time the day before you wish to hike. Note that Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time, but Utah does, so if you’re staying in Page, AZ, you’ll have to leave one hour “early” during DST. During non-DST months, Arizona and Utah are on the same time. It has been suggested that first-time participants in this process arrive right at 8:30 AM [2], though it will not affect your chances one way or the other. The BLM ranger on duty will assign numbers to all parties applying. He or she will then draw numbers until all slots are filled.

If you are coming from St. George, Utah it is about 26.5 miles south on I-15 to Littlefield, Arizona. Take the exit and head north.
• You will head north on highway 91 for a very short distant of .22 miles if you are coming from Mesquite or it will be .08 mile (450 ft), if you are coming from St. George, UT.
• Turn left and get on Littlefield Interchange Road. This road will wind around, but stay on it for about 3/4 of a mile where the road will take a sharp right hand turn. This is where you will need to get off on to the dirt road and head west. This is where we begin.
• We will need to stay on the main road for about 4.19 mile or just under 4 1/4 miles where we need to make a 90 degree turn to the right and head North.
• Now travel little over 3 1/2 miles (3.58) and stay to the left of the road. Do not take the right fork. Stay on the main dirt road and stay left. Some landmarks are big power-lines. This is a good marker in case you get lost.
• At the 5.32 mile mark from the first turn off heading north, stay to the right and you will then need to make a sharp left turn. Just stay on the main dirt road.
• Around the 6 1/2 mile mark, we should be crossing a small wash that is a 4 way. Stay straight on the main road.
• Just little over the 7.0 mile mark, you will need to make a right coming around a hill, there you will see remnants of an old cattle coral. Head toward that.
• You can go straight, but I would suggest going to the left around the coral and the make a right on the wash and head up. We should be around 7.33 miles.
• This wash is now called the Sand Hollow Wash Road. Let’s stay on this for a while.
• Traveling little over 11 3/4 miles from where we start heading straight north, we will come to a fence line. This is where we need to head east (right) and follow this ATV trail. This trail will fit most rigs, but I would not suggest anything larger that the K5 blazers or the big bronco fords, suburbans. Now we are heading East.
• Just about 2 miles we will have already hit some pretty good washes, but there is this one that will really articulate the body out of your rig. This is where we can get stuck, but no worries, Tri-Pointing is not for wussies!!! Right!!! Go for it!!!
• So just little over 2 1/4 miles from the turn off we are at the NV/UT/AZ/ tripoint. Don’t forget to sign the guest book in the geocache box.
• To get back, reverse the order.
